Top-Sider member, Zach Brown, lectured the 153 competitors participating at the
Sabot Nationals this week at Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego. Zach is
campaigning in the 49er class with Fred Strammer for the Rio 2016 Olympic
Games. His advice to the young sailors included two points: “make a performance-oriented
goal for the week… and make a new friend at the event outside of [their] yacht club team.” Zach
also reminded competitors to, “just keep sailing, even if [they] take a break
from racing it is important to remember that there are many different avenues.” Additionally, he encouraged racers to take
time to crew for older people to build skills and get better. Zach’s final
piece of advice was to, “keep working hard with teammates - the best way to
get better is to sail hard together.”
This Wednesday, I will spend
a day on the water for the final races of the Sabot Nationals at Mission Bay.
Look forward to interviews with competitors and plenty of photos.
